Twitter and Twitter-like applications are going to have a growing impact in news.
It's been suggested that news consumers who have abandoned newspapers and no longer bump into news stories by reading the daily fish wrap, can replace that serendipitous experience by watching their Twitter feeds.
Depending on whom they are following, of course.
Amy Gahran, at Poynter, has written a very complete post in her E-Media Tidbits blog about Twitter successes and way to use this sort of microblogging. It includes all sorts of useful hints and links for news organizations who are starting to tweet.
If you're thinking about using Twitter, it's a worthwhile read.
